Naturopathic oncology Pancreatic cancer protocol

I have started to write-up the naturopathic protocol I have been following since early 2023 here:
https://lawrenceoconnor.com/2023/12/24/naturopathic-oncology-pancreatic-cancer-protocol/

I now am in the privileged position of supporting others who are facing a similar challenge, particularly through the Always Hope group that has been of so much help and support to me at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1666326947166815/
I am eternally grateful for the amazing support I have received. There are so many wonderful, kind and generous people in the world.

To all the people who have contributed to my Yes to Life justgiving fund, including those who contributed to me directly as a result of it:

You been a critical part of making it possible for us to get through a dark time which, wonderfully, we now seem to be on the other side from and now have all we need financially and I am pleased to be able to close my Yes to Life Justgiving page from accepting contributions.

I should be fit enough to soon be able to start making and sending contributors their solitary bee houses that I promised for each contribution. The Yes to Life charity, under whose auspices the page is set up, is not allowed to release to me any name or contact details of contributors that are not made visible on the page when they make their contribution. I will do my best to identify who each of them are and hopefully be able find a way of contacting them so I know where to send them their bee house.

UPDATE 29th March
Still working the protocol hard. Continuing to respond to the many enquiries I have from people who want to find out more about my diagnosis, prognosis and what I did and who I have worked-with to get to be ‘NED’ – no evidence of disease.
While a long way off from my former physical fitness as it was before the effects of the cancer and of the chemotherapy, I continue to regain my health and stamina, week-by-week.
Still on oral capecitabine, which causes painful stomach pains (one of its known side-effects) to keep any residual cancer cells that might still be floating around from propagating and also spending more time than I would like to have to inside the HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) chamber but this helps mitigate the effects of the chemo. Finding ways to make the time in the chamber productive.
Walked 17.Kms across a mountainous trail this month!!!

UPDATE 1st March 2024
Had scans and TACE chemo round two weeks ago with Professor Vogl who has confirmed all the previously seen activity is now gone. On oral Capecitabine to ‘mop up’ any rogue cells still floating round my system but, currently, I am ‘NED’ – no evidence of disease. Next scheduled appointment is a control scan in early June.

UPDATE: 14th January 2024
The Cancer Appears Again
Had the results of the scans in November looked at by two, wonderful and skilled consultants who have been like guardian angels to me through this experience: Professor Thomas Vogl of Frankfurt University hospital and Professor Edward Leen of Princess Grace hospital, London. Turns out there are currently two newly identified ‘likely’ and ‘almost certain’ tumours in my abdomen.
Interestingly, the Multidisciplinary Team at Hammersmith Hospital met recently, including oncologist, Professor Harpeet Wasan, and was of the opinion that there is no cancer activity. Nevertheless, I have been shown the sites of activity in the PET scans by Professor Leen and Professor Vogl also agrees that this is recurrance activity, for which I have resumed oral chemo and will be travelling to Frankfurt University for TACE chemo and/or perfusion chemo.

****************************************************************
This is work in progress, following recovery from the adenocarcinoma of the pancreas that, as of January 2023, I had been told was terminal and for which I was also told I was unresponsive to chemotherapy. I had been referred to a hospice and was due to visit to ‘look around’ ahead of my expected end-of-life stay there. As of scans in November, I am weak but my body shows no signs of active cancer…

At the foundation of my actions to achieve and maintain recovery from this disease is the karma-changing Buddhist practise of chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo as a member of SGI-UK – lay Nichiren Buddhist organisation for the creation of value through peace, culture and education.

#protocol

Following a first, failed resection in September 2022 and then being told the cancer was ‘unresponsive’ to chemo and given a terminal prognosis of 12-18 months survival as of January 2023, the first two, prime steps I took were:

1. To ask myself ‘Do I want to live?’ and to answer *honestly*.

2. The answer being ‘yes!’, committed to take unrelenting massive action.

Here, below, is one of the main components of my naturopathic protocol in helping in shrinking the locally advanced pancreatic cancer tumour sufficiently away from the hepatic arteries and veins that it had partially encased, to then enable its surgical removal with clear margins, for recovering from the cancer and, ongoing, to deter recurrence, along with HBOT and mistletoe injections. Please note that I didn’t action everything in the list below all the time. But I did do everything on the list that it was within my power to do, as continuously as possible. Some continuity was deliberately interrupted, periodically, for ‘pulsing’ components of the protocol:

Naturopathic protocol from Linda Sinclair (https://www.always-hope.co.uk/appointment/) and who’s group is a valuable resource of encouragement, information and support: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1666326947166815/

For hyperbaric oxygen therapy and IVC, I go to prescribing nurse Laura Homan who’s clinic is Positive IV, England. I have also enjoyed and benefited from brilliant Chedgrave Oxygen Therapy and its fantastic team.

For options for chemotherapy and radiology, as well as trustworthy, honest expert medical opinion and treatment, I continue to be supported by Professor Thomas Vogl, Frankfurt and Professor Edward Leen, London.

The tough 11 rounds of Folforinox early on were courtesy of Professor Harpeet Wasan, London. As horrible as the experience was and as ‘unresponsive’ to it I was before I started my naturopathic protocol, he and his team, as well as the truly wonderful oncology nurse specialists at Imperial College NHS trust are forever held in my eternal respect and gratitude.

If anyone close to me needed HPB diagnosis, treatment and surgery, I would recommend them to the fantastic team at Hammersmith Hospital, London including Mr. Pai who looked after me on the ward and gifted surgeons Mr Duncan Spalding and Professor Jan Henrik Storkholm as well as the whole team and system of practice of HPB ward ‘A8’ including physio, nutrition and pain management. I felt collaborated-with and that my integrative, naturopathic approach was listened-to, respected, trusted and incorporated into their medical decisions.

Disclaimer:

This information is from my naturopathic oncology advisor, Linda Sinclair, based on researching and is not medical advice. Please always consult a medical professional.

Dosing suggestions are taken from suggested prescriptions written by medical professionals and are not my personal suggestions.

Some supplements are repeated to ensure the therapeutic doses are received.

Always introduce meds and supplements one at a time in case one doesn’t agree with you. If you start with lots, you can cause nausea and would not know what didn’t agree with you and would have to stop everything and start again.

Every 3 months change some of your supplements for things covering the same pathway so that your body does not get too used to them. Switch back after 3 months.

If liver enzymes rise very quickly over a short period of time, and there is no jaundice or rise in bilirubin this can be a sign of die off, especially if you have liver metastases. Cancer cells can impact on ALT, AST and GGT readings as they die off.

You should stop most of the protocol, except autophagy inducers and focus on detoxing. Monitor the levels and when they come back into range, restart the full protocol. Coffee enemas, Epsom Salt baths and 2DG for detox. Dead cells (tumour lysis) need to be cleared.

2DG regulates aerobic glycolysis on the glucose feeding pathway.

2DG dose 2g in 2 litres of water, taken with Berberine 500mg. IT SHOULD NOT be taken in one dose but taken slowly over the course of the day. If you can take it at night when cancer is more active do this. Sip it every twenty minutes and aim to take it over 5 hours.

Do this for two days then stop. Best 4 days before chemo cycle.

Stop 2 days before chemotherapy and on the day of chemotherapy and then restart 4 days before the next cycle.

If available in IV form, this is the best method. There is a clinic in Turkey who offer this therapy. Inhibits aerobic and anaerobic glycolysis.

Very supportive with tumour necrosis where the inflammatory response is triggered. Available at yourhealthbasket.

This is the primary Glutamine Inhibitor

Sodium Phenylbutyrate

1g to start and increase gradually to 2g 3 x daily. 1/3 of daily dose in the day and 2/3 at night when cancer is more active.

MUD INTO LOTUS!

In September 2022, after months of return visits to hospitals for investigation, I was eventually diagnosed with a locally advanced, moderately aggressive adenocarcinoma in the pancreas. The doctors’ best guess is that it started growing in June 2021.

With the support of other fellow Buddhist practitioners I galvanised myself with a personal campaign – to transform the ‘mud’ of this difficult karma into the beautiful ‘lotus’ of Buddhahood through my Buddhist practise- which, encouraged to do so by my Buddha-warrior friend Dave W, I gave a name: MUD INTO LOTUS! In one of the long nights of insomnia that at first accompanied the disease and its treatment, I felt inspired to create an emblem to encapsulate my campaign, the result of which I have shared above.

I came to realise that every one of us has that seemingly intractable ‘thing’ in our lives that we want to change and I encourage all those I talk to about it to use this campaign to transform the mud of their own negative karma into the beautiful lotus flower of the expression of their own Buddhahood in the world.

I like image of the fist of determined defiance combined with the lotus of the Lotus Sutra, the core teaching of my practise which teaches that every single person can change the path of their life, right now, in this moment. That there is always hope.
