Philosophy, Values and Principles

I believe that, together, we can achieve anything. Including world peace. And that the attainment of world peace begins with the individual being at peace with themselves. And that the individual being at peace with themselves begins with them undertaking effort toward their own inner transformation or ‘human revolution’  – transforming the tendencies to live based on greed, anger & ignorance to a life based on courage, wisdom and compassion. It is my experience that, through dedicating my life to transforming my negative tendencies and encouraging others to do the same, I find my creative expression in the world, enabling me to open ‘the groaning doors‘ of my heart.

Professionally, I identify primarily as ‘actor’. I consider acting to be both art and craft, to be able to ‘live truthfully in given imaginary circumstances’, responding truthfully and instinctively in the moment. I find expression for this through many channels and particularly through my performance work, theatre, film, singing, music-making and teaching.
I believe that we are all artists at heart and that to be free and authentic as an artist requires continual training in the craft of our chosen vocation(s). This ongoing work to train, to deepen our connection with our own humanity, to increase our technical capability helps remove the obstacles to fulfilling our potential for authentic, creative expression .
I believe that we are all already everything we need to be and are limitlessly interesting exactly as we are.

I believe that to live a life of meaning is to be of service to others. One of my practical expressions of this is to make my priority being of use to the communities to which I belong in all their varied forms.

I consider the greatest privilege and achievement of my life to be father to my three children.

I live in South West London with Tara Osman, writer, actor, activist and also my amazing and inspiring wife.

I have been practising Nichiren Buddhism as a member of SGI-UK (Society for the Creation of Value through culture and education) since 1986.
